Very Important Instructions for use:

-Be sure there is an un-walkable lining around the entire map. If there is not, the tanks will be able to go anywhere, and it is then very likely then that the calculator will crash.

-The starting locations for each tank can not be changed (will be changable in later versions however) The hosting tank will ALWAYS start in the square 1 down, and 1 right from the top left corner. The joining tank will ALWAYS start in the square 1 up, and 1 left from the bottom right corner. BE SURE THESE SQUARES ARE OPEN FOR MOVEMENT.

-When opening maps, be ABSOLUTELY sure that that filename exists or it will crash.

-When saving maps, be sure you know that it will replace any other maps with that same name. (IMPORTANT NOTE: The actual file that the map editor uses to open is just the name of the map with no extension, the file that goes on the calculator is your map name (followed by anywhere from 0 to 7 underscore space thingies or whatever they're called) and .89y. I am not a very advanced Windows programmer, so the file save and file open are not normal windows file save/open things, it is just a dos thing. The maps will always be saved in the same folder as TankEdit.exe, and you must open them from TankEdit.exe. Be sure to keep TankEdit.exe, Saving.exe, and ttbin2oth.exe in the same folder.

-This is a very early version of the editor so there is not very well built in recovery for user error, just get used to it and you shouldn't have any problems.

Normal Instructions for use:

-NEW IN THIS VERSION:
  -Divided into 3 windows

-Right or Left click on a tile in the tileset bitmap on the left side of the screen to select it (right and left click select different tiles). Right or Left click on the map canvas to place a selected tile. Right clicking and Left clicking will place the tile associated with it. (makes for much faster editing than only being able to select 1 tile)

-Press 'Save' to save your map. Be sure to not save to an existing file unless you are overwriting an old map. This will save a file with the name of your map, AND an 89y file with the name of your map followed by _'s (unless it is 8 characters long) Maximum file length is 8 characters.

-Press 'Open' to open a map. This will open the file with the name of the map you previously saved (no extension). If the file that you try to open does not exist, it will crash. If you accidently pressed open, just close the dos box thingy.

<==HELPER SECTION==>
------------------------------->
You want to test your map at home without another TI-89 and you don't have VTI's virtual link or you just don't want to use it, so in order to open a map without an opponent calc, follow these instructions.
1. Open Tankers()
2. Choose Host
3. Choose the map you wish to test
4. Choose any number between 1 and 9, it doesn't matter cus you can't win unless you leave the top left square open, which you shouldn't.
5. On the "Waiting for player to join" screen, hold the left button and the right button at the same time, it should start a single player game with no opponents for you to test your map
------------------------------->
Suggestions:
-TURN OFF THE GRID BEFORE YOU SAVE! It doesn't really 'matter' if you do, it's just that there are some impurities in the map that you won't catch with the grid on, which look really ugly on the calculator.
-Nobody wants to play on an ugly map, be sure it looks as smooth as possible without any 'straight lines' between grass and dirt and whatever.
-Be sure your tiles fit together! (see above) there are enough tiles to be sure that your tiles will fit together, just keep looking, you should find a tile that will fit.
-Use TI-Graph Link Software, it will automatically create the folder 'tmaps' and send your map to it. VTI also does it automatically.
-Look at your map in grayscale; the way it will appear on your calculator.
